The Speyside Cooperage is located within Craigellachie and is now the only working cooperage in the UK where you can see the highly skilled coopers at work priding themselves on the ancient art of coopering (making casks).

After touring around the area taking in some of the world’s best known distilleries, Craigellachie boasts a few of the equally famous whisky bars where you can sample a huge selection of whiskies, all within stumbling distance of the Craigellachie Lodge.

Spanning across the three forests, Whiteash, Ordequish and Ben Aigan, there is a total of 28km trails, with 20km being single track. Due to the various grades available the trails are rideable for a range of abilities with great views across the Spey Valley and plenty drop-offs, jumps and table tops for the experienced rider. The Glenlivet Estate mountain bike trails are purpose built for riders of all levels to enjoy the beautiful cross country views which is located within the famed illicit whisky distilling country. There are two distinct trails, blue and red, where the blue 9km trail is designed for novices and the red 22km trail caters for experienced bikers. The latter climbs up to the summit of Carn Diamh, 1866ft above sea level, with fantastic views of the Cairngorms. Balvenie Castle is perched above the Glenfiddich and Balvenie distilleries and boasts fantastic views. Built in the 13th century, formally known as Mortlach Castle, the ruin has a very interesting history and architecture.
The Ballindalloch Castle is home of the only Lady Laird in Scotland and has been lived in by its original family since 1546. The Castle is set in beautiful surroundings offering various tours inside the stunning building, full of family memorabilia and antiques as well as walks around the impressive gardens.
Known as the “Pearl of the North”, Ballindalloch Castle is a warm and welcoming castle set in the magnificent Spey Valley in the Highlands of Scotland. The Castle is very much a lived-in family home, which adds to its appeal to visitors. It is filled with family memorabilia, as well as a fine collection of 17th century Spanish paintings collected by Sir John Macpherson-Grant in the mid 19th century.
One of the most popular being the Speyside Way which passes through Craigellachie as part of the Buckie to Aviemore, 65 mile route. The trail takes you from the Moray Coast, with its award winning beaches and fishing villages through the valley of the River Spey and finishes in the heart of the breathtaking highlands.
If you do not have the time or energy to go the full 65 mile distance, Craigellachie is ideally positioned to allow sections of the trail to be enjoyed such as Craigellachie to Ballindalloch, along the disused Strathspey railway, and Craigellachie to Fochabers which climbs over the shoulder of Ben Aigen.
